Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot, which can be caused by overwatering. Asparagus ferns thrive in higher humidity levels. If the air in your home is dry, consider placing a humidifier nearby or regularly misting the leaves. Another option is to place the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water, ensuring that the pot does not sit directly in the water.

Fertilisation

Feed your asparagus fern with a balanced liquid fertiliser every four to six weeks during the growing season. Avoid fertilising during the winter months when the plant's growth slows down.

Potting and Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally one formulated for houseplants. Repot every couple of years to refresh the soil and provide more space for growth. Choose a pot with drainage holes to facilitate proper water flow.

Pruning

Regular pruning helps maintain the plant’s shape and encourages bushier growth. Remove any dead or yellowing fronds to promote overall health. Be cautious, as the foliage can be quite delicate.

Pest Management

Monitor for common pests such as spider mites and aphids. If detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil, ensuring to cover the undersides of the leaves as well.

Temperature

Asparagus ferns prefer moderate temperatures, ideally between 18-24°C. Protect them from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, which can stress the plant.
